Golfing New England: Rhode Island

Carnegie Abbey Club

The Carnegie Abbey Club (pictured above) sits alongside Narragansett Bay with holes stretching across open fields and the expansive countryside. Private yachts are moored nearby, and this exclusive property includes tennis and equestrian. The course opened to great fanfare in 2001 with a match between Ryder Cup captains Curtis Strange and Sam Torrance. The waterfront links-style course, designed by Donald Steele, takes full advantage of its jaw-dropping seaside location.

Richmond Country Club

Golf Digest also speaks highly of Richmond Country Club in Hope Valley, giving it a four-star rating for “Places to Play.” Sculpted out of a pine forest, the course has the feel of a private club. With narrow fairways framed by towering pine trees, you will be duly challenged. It is also considered one of the state’s best values.
