Golfing New England: New Hampshire

North Conway Country Club

Located in the center of North Conway village, the North Conway Country Club has hosted numerous state Opens. Established in 1895, it sits alongside the Saco River, with water hazards coming into play on five holes. It has been ranked among the Top 10 courses in the state. Although certainly challenging, this scenic course is also quite enjoyable for players of all ability.

Pease Golf Course

Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, built in 1901, is the only area club with 27 holes. The championship course begins with a pair of par 5 holes, while the entire layout features narrow, sloped fairways and large, undulating greens. A deft short game is critical if you hope to score. The course is adjacent to the Pease Air National Guard Base, which occupies a portion of Pease International Airport. On any given day you might see the Thunderbirds practicing their routines or watch a huge C-130 Hercules descending onto a nearby runway. It’s quite the spectacle, especially as you prepare to play the 236-yard par-3 11th hole.
